Coordinated, specialised care designed around women’s bodies & lived experience
At North West Healthy Women, our all-female team of physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, psychologist, and dietitian support women through every stage of cancer treatment and survivorship. We offer evidence-based rehabilitation for the physical side effects, structured exercise to rebuild safely, psychological support for the emotional load, and small-group classes that foster connection and confidence.
As women’s health specialists, we understand the realities that can sit underneath recovery such as: treatment-induced menopause; lymph node removal and lymphatic changes; post-surgical tightness and scar sensitivity; and hormonal therapies that shift how your body feels and functions. We take all of it into account, then build a plan that meets you where you are now and supports where you want to be next.
How North West Healthy Women supports cancer rehabilitation
Our all-female team of physiotherapists and exercise physiologists work together to address the physical changes that often come with treatment, including:
- Reduced strength and muscle loss
- Joint stiffness and restricted mobility
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Lymphatic changes and swelling risk
- Cancer-related fatigue
- Loss of confidence in movement
Our in-house women’s psychologist provides specialised support to help you process the mental and emotional aspects of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
For women who want connection as well as rehabilitation, our cancer rehabilitation classes offer a safe, supportive environment to rebuild strength alongside others who may be going through a similar experience.

Women's cancer rehabilitation FAQs
When can I start cancer rehabilitation physiotherapy?
You can start at any stage: before or during treatment, or years after completing treatment. Early support can improve recovery, but it is never too late to begin.
Is it safe to exercise during chemotherapy or radiation?
Yes, when appropriately prescribed. Evidence shows tailored exercise can reduce fatigue, maintain strength, and improve overall wellbeing during treatment. Your program will be adjusted to your energy levels and medical guidance.
I’ve finished treatment but still feel weak. Can you help?
Absolutely. Many women experience ongoing fatigue, joint pain, stiffness, or deconditioning after treatment. Rehabilitation focuses on rebuilding strength and function safely.
Do I need a referral from my oncologist or GP?
No referral is required to see a women’s health physiotherapist or exercise physiologist. If you’re eligible for Medicare, NDIS, or private health rebates, we can help guide you through the relevant options and liaise with your GP or specialist if needed.
Can you help with pelvic floor issues after cancer treatment?
Yes. Treatment for breast and gynaecological cancers can affect bladder, bowel, sexual function, and core strength. We provide sensitive, specialised pelvic health care.
