Remedial massage for women gives your body the targeted, clinical attention it's been missing.

Remedial massage for women is a highly effective tool available for supporting health and wellbeing. When it’s delivered by a therapist who specialises in women’s health, it goes well beyond relaxation. Jess is our in-house remedial massage therapist, bringing that level of care to every session at North West Healthy Women.

Remedial massage vs relaxation massage?

Remedial massage is a treatment that goes well beyond relaxation. Where a standard massage focuses on how you feel on the table, remedial massage focuses on why your body feels the way it does, and specifically addresses it.

The approach is holistic. For example, a shoulder problem is rarely just a shoulder problem. Jess zooms out, looks at the whole picture, and treats accordingly, whether that means working on the neck, the upper back, or tracing the tension all the way down into the lower back.

Hello, I’m Jess.

Jess is a remedial massage therapist specialising in all things women’s health from fertility support, pregnancy and postnatal massage, c-section release and abdominal massage to supporting women as they transition through perimenopause and beyond. She offers personalised, evidence-based treatments with a nurturing, holistic approach, helping women reduce pain and discomfort and reconnect with their bodies.

Remedial massage for every stage of your women's health journey

Your body changes at every stage of life. So does what it needs. Jess works with women across all stages, with the knowledge and training to adapt her approach accordingly.

If you are trying to conceive, bodywork can be a supportive part of your preparation. Remedial massage helps reduce stress, support nervous system regulation, and address physical tension that may be affecting how you feel in your body. Jess works gently and intentionally with women in the preconception phase.

Jess is trained in pregnancy massage and understands how to position and support your body safely and comfortably at every trimester.  That includes the first trimester. Many clinics won’t see pregnant women until after 10 or 12 weeks, but you are welcome with Jess from the very start of your pregnancy.  If lying face down is not comfortable, she uses bolsters and pillows to prop you up properly, so you actually get to relax. Pregnancy massage can help with back and hip pain, sciatic discomfort, swelling, sleep, and the general weight of growing a baby.

The postpartum period is one of the most physically demanding of a woman’s life, and one of the least supported. Postnatal massage helps rebuild body awareness, release the tension that accumulates from feeding, carrying,  sleep deprivation, and gives you an hour that is genuinely just for you. If you have a baby, they are welcome in the room, or if you are comfortable, our receptionist can look after them while you have your session.

C-section scar massage is one of Jess’ areas of specialist expertise. Scar tissue from a caesarean can affect the surrounding fascia, your core activation, pelvic floor function, and even your posture, often without women realising the connection. Jess uses targeted scar tissue work to improve mobility, reduce sensitivity, and help your body integrate the scar properly. That includes the bulge or overhang that can sit above the scar, sometimes called the c-section shelf. Releasing the tethered tissue underneath can improve how the area moves, feels, and looks. This work can be done months or even years after your caesarean, and it is never too late to start.

Signs you may benefit from a remedial massage session

  • Persistent neck, shoulder, or back pain that hasn’t responded to other treatment
  • Pregnancy-related discomfort including back pain, hip pain, pelvic pressure, or sciatica
  • Postnatal recovery where your body hasn’t felt right since giving birth.
  • A c-section scar with tightness, numbness, sensitivity, or restricted movement
  • Recurring headaches linked to postural tension or muscle tightness.
  • Preconception support, including stress reduction and nervous system regulation
  • Perimenopausal symptoms including muscle tension, joint discomfort, or disrupted sleep
  • General tension and fatigue that has built up over time without adequate treatment

What to expect at your first remedial massage appointment

Your first session starts with a conversation. Jess will ask about your goals, your history, any pain or tension you are carrying, and what has triggered it. She wants the full picture before her hands tell her the rest.

From there, she works intuitively. Her clinical assessment happens through touch, finding where the body is tight, restricted, or compensating, and treating it in the right order. You will leave with advice on how to manage your symptoms between sessions and what to expect as your body responds to treatment.

Remedial massage for women FAQs

You do not need a referral or an initial physio consultation to book with Jess. You can come straight in. But because Jess works within a multidisciplinary clinic, if she finds something in your treatment that would benefit from physiotherapy or exercise physiology support, she can refer you in-house. Your care stays connected, and so does your team.

Not at all. Jess has massaged every kind of leg and is entirely unbothered. Come as you are.

You undress to your level of comfort. You will be covered and draped with a sheet throughout your session, and only the area being treated will be uncovered at any one time. You can keep your bra on if you prefer. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, Jess will position you with pillows and bolsters so you are comfortable without needing to lie face down.

Generally, any time works. However, if you have endometriosis, heavy periods, or significant cramping, it is worth avoiding deeper tissue work around the time of your period when your body tends to be more sensitive. If you are unsure, just let Jess know where you are in your cycle when you book, and she can advise.

Yes. If you have a baby, they are welcome in the treatment room with you, or the team at reception can keep an eye on them while you have your session. We know how hard it is to carve out time for yourself postpartum, and we want to make it as easy as possible.

Yes. C-section scar massage is one of Jess’s specialist areas. Scar tissue can affect your core, pelvic floor, and posture, and targeted treatment can make a real difference to how you feel. It is never too late to address a scar, even years after your caesarean.

This varies depending on what you are coming in with. Jess will give you a clear recommendation at your first appointment based on what she finds. For postnatal care, she typically suggests fortnightly sessions initially, moving to monthly or six-weekly maintenance once things settle.
